Embrace Your Geekness Day |
|
Embrace Your
Geekness Day is a great day to be a
Geek. Or, to know a Geek.
A geek is an
individual who is highly intelligent
(brainy) and technically oriented.
They are most often associated with
the computer, and computer systems
world. A geek is usually formal,
studious and into his technical
world, often to the exclusion of all
else. A geek is closely related to a
"Nerd". A nerd however, may or may
not possess technical expertise.
Some people view
the term "Geek" with a negative
connotation. Are they jealous of
your knowledge and skills, perhaps?
We certainly think so.
Enjoy Embrace
Your Geekness Day to the fullest.
Spend plenty of time with your
computer. Talk computer lingo and
jargon. If you are a geek, stand
tall and proud. Isn't it great to be
so brilliant and gifted!?

Festival on the Green
July 12-18, 2009
Middlebury, Vermont
The
Festival on the Green has been acclaimed by Vermont
Life as “the best series of free performances in
Vermont” and as Vermont's “Favorite Festival.” The
event has again earned the Addison Eagle’s “Readers’
Choice Award for Best Summer Festival.” In September
2005, the Festival Committee was honored with the
Theresa S. Brungardt Award for outstanding service
as an organization to Recreation and Parks in
Vermont and on Town Meeting Day 2003, Festival
representatives were on hand to accept the Robert
Collins Recreation Service Award from the Middlebury
community. We have also been distinguished seven
times with selection as a Vermont Chamber of
Commerce “Top Ten Summer Event.” Members of the
media and of our Festival audience have graciously
complimented the event with these words:
- “Small town, big fun!”
- “One of the best
community-oriented music festivals imaginable.”
- “A gift to the entire
community.”
- “Middlebury at its finest.”
- “Excellent quality and
variety of performers.”
- “Love it all -- what a
treat!”
- “The Festival on-the-Green
is the very essence of New England in summer. A
blanket tossed on the grass, free music, good
ice cream, friendly neighbors' faces and
children dancing in the shadows of the gazebo.
This is the America we have mostly left behind,
and to which we keep trying to return.”

Noctilucent Cloud
Storm Panorama
P-M Hedén (Clear Skies, TWAN) click above image for a higher-resolution graphic
Noctilucent or night-shining clouds lie near the edge of
space. From about 80 kilometers above Earth's surface, the
icy clouds can still reflect sunlight even though the Sun
itself is below the horizon as seen from the ground. Usually
occurring at high latitudes in summer months, the diaphanous
apparitions are also known as polar mesospheric clouds and
may be connected to global change in the lower atmosphere.
This impressive 360 degree panorama made from 34 separate
images captures an impressive display of noctilucent clouds
all over the sky. It was recorded last month from Vallentuna,
Sweden. The photographer reports that the display was like a
noctilucent cloud storm, one of the best he's ever
witnessed.
